The Bachelor Girl's Guide To Murder

Toronto in 1910 was not exactly the best place for two young bachelor girls to be out snooping in the dead of night. But for Merinda Herringford and Jemima Watts, this is an ordinary night out...

When there's a mystery to be solved, Merinda and Jemima are not far behind. So, it's no big surprise to Constable Jasper Forth when the ladies start to investigate the murder of two Irish women. Although they both come from quite different backgrounds,( Jemima: disowned by her wealthy parents because of her, as they put it, ''terrible'' choice of companionship. Also because she hasn't married yet. Merinda: her parents support her sleuthing habits and she gets a monthly pension to help her afford a living space) they are the perfect match to solve this case, and many others. They have a few suspects, one of them being Ray DeLuca, a journalist, who's hoping to get a story about the lady detectives in his paper. Jemima's newfound interest in the journalist soon becomes more personal than professional, and so their escapades begin. Who's the murderer and why did they do it? Read this intriguing story to find out...

This was a great story, written in even better English! The English is a much older and more formal version of the English used today. I must say, at the beginning of the story, I found it quite hard to adjust to this style, but it becomes a lot easier later on, so whatever you think, do not let the English stop you from reading this book! Another thing, if you are looking for an intriguing murder mystery full of plot twists and surprises, then maybe this is not for you. There is a murder, and it is a mystery, but you kind of know who the murderer is going to be and the characters know to, they just have to prove it. Speaking of characters, I absolutely loved them! they are funny, intelligent and everything else that you would want to see in a story like this. Amazing work, McMillan!
